South African Youth Celebrates Two Years Of Unemployment On Twitter In Style

As many South African youths are going about campaigning for their political parties, a South African youth took to his Twitter handle to celebrate two years of unemployment as a graduate. This is no longer news because over half South African youths are unemployed, and they live on the meagre R350 social grants. He wrote on his Twitter, “Today I'm celebrating exactly 2 years as an unemployed graduate. That's 730 days of applying, praying and rejection”. Other people also added their plight, disclosing that education is a scam in South Africa. A youth advised those who are job hunting to, “Keep on fighting. Consider various alternatives like volunteering for experience, further education, take any job to survive & learn new skills, etc. All the best”. It is a terrible experience being unemployed for a long time. People need to make ends meet.

Another youth recalled how he spent 5 years without a job in South Africa. He said this to encourage those who felt like giving up, advising them that there is hope ahead. He wrote, “Eish bro. I spent 5 years after graduation before getting a job. I mitigated against it by further education, so I don't sit at home. Things are bad in this country, ruined economy and bad governance / mismanagement / corruption. Jobs for pals and cadres. Too much nepotism etc. Didn’t have the money. Had to rely on bursaries and scholarships. Good grades also helped to get opportunities”. As political parties are campaigning for votes, they are promising more jobs to the people, but not many of those promises will come to fruition or materialize. A youth cried out, “Sad that education does not give one the skills to learn how to survive”. True, unemployment is taking a negative toll on South African youths.

Many people are stating how they have been surviving all these years. Another person pointed out, “I don't know which field you are in but man applying alone will not help you do walk ins ask to volunteer remember you are not the only one doing it walk around… Leave comfort zone… I know you have done a lot, but you will need more than that just don't give up change your strategy”
