The reason why the government decided to discontinue the additional R500 on child support grant was never revealed. Beneficiaries never understood why the government decided to stop giving them the R500 considering that the srd grant beneficiaries have continued getting their payments until January 2020.
The government chose the worst time to discontinue the additional money considering that the December festives are fast approaching and parents needs the Monet to buy their children clothes and groceries. Many families rely on the social grant they get because they are unemployed, when the government decided to increase their grant they were very happy because they could cover all their basic needs. However since the additional money was stopped many of the Sassa beneficiaries don't even know how they will able to maintain their children during the December festives.
I think what the government did was really unfair, how could they stop the additional R500 on child support but continued giving the unemployed people their R350. I think it's only fair that they should bring back the R500 at least for December so that parents can buy their children clothes for December.
