Toyota Fortuner falls into sinkhole on Saturday

A Toyota Fortuner fell into a sinkhole on the road during a burst pipe repair in Genevafontein on Saturday morning. Two people were reported to have been in the vehicle as this event unfolded.

The incident took place on Saturday morning where officials were busy fixing a burst water pipe on the road.

There has been unconfirmed speculations that the driver of the Toyota Fortuner ignored cones on the road and drove into a sinkhole.

The driver was a man traveling with his son, who both managed to escape the vehicle just before the road gave way. Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Pojie said no criminal offence will be investigated.

No injuries were sustained at this event and the SUV was submerged out of the sinkhole in Genevafontein.

Municipal Communications officer, Athand Scholtz informed the residents that this incident had caused delays in the repairs of the water pipes and people are urged to use water sparingly as this could take more time to fix."water supply may be affected, updates on repairs will follow" she added.
