Revealed: New 2022 VW Polo

The Volkswagen Polo, one of South Africa's most coveted and celebrated hatchback, will launch in SA soon. Initial prices have been announced.

The facelifted VW Polo range will start at R311,800 for the Polo 1.0 TSI. The hatchback will be sold in Polo, Polo Life, Polo R-Line, and Polo GTI specifications.

But it’s not just the new Polo that will be launching next year, the Polo-based crossover namely the Taigo, also known as the Nivus in Latin American markets, where it was designed.

The new Polo looks sharper, stern, and decidedly grown-up, morphing into what resembles an enhanced Golf 7. LED lights are a major highlight, and the new Polo also has a distinctive light signature formed by an LED light strip across the radiator grille,  joined together by the VW badge in the middle.

The entire cockpit is more driver-orientated and digitized. The VW Digital Cockpit comes standard across the model range. An 8-inch digital cockpit is fitted as standard in the base-level Polo and mid-spec Life models, while a 10.25-inch unit can be found in the R-Line (now a trim level, not just a styling package) and Polo GTI. Other changes include a redesigned steering wheel, upgraded infotainment and App-Connect (optional). R-Line and Polo GTI models get climatronic air-con with touch panels and sliders instead of buttons and knobs.
