JUST IN | Primary School Classes Torched

Six mobile classrooms were set alight and the seventh one vandalised at Thabotona Primary School in Katlehong today (19 October).

The City’s firefighters from Zonkizizwe Fire Station in Katlehong responded to the call received at 11h25, and on arrival six classrooms were already engulfed and destroyed by fire. Some of school’s furniture, tables and chairs were found burning outside the classrooms as well.

Hlahatsi and Wadeville fire stations provided back-up by helping minimise the damage caused by the fire.

One of the residence said "They want brick classes and a swimming pool a field a therapist school bus and security so they felt they should burn those shacks and start planning for a new project."

An inquest docket was opened by the South African Police Services (SAPS) on the scene. Fortunately no casualties were recorded.
