The suicide of a 15-year-old schoolgirl has once again brought the issue of bullying into focus. Asanda Thethwayo died last week because she was allegedly being mocked at school. The Grade 10 pupil, who will be buried today in Folweni, had apparently told her family that she hated going to school because of constantly being teased about having “thick” lips and a chipped tooth.
A man who denied any knowledge of his girlfriends whereabouts by saying he had last seen her some time back was sold out by her phone. Abednego Thethwayo aged 35 was found guilty of killing his girlfriend Lethiwe Mngomezulu. Detectives Seargeant DS Biyela and Warrant Officer TB Nkosi from Richards Bay Saps said they worked around the clock on this investigation and had their big break through cellphone records which showed Thethwayo was the last person to have seen the deceased.

A violent serial rapist whose seven victims included a 13-year-old girl, was sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court on Wednesday. Appearing indifferent to the pain and humiliation his victims relived as they testified, Sabelo Mlungisi Thethwayo (30) was also convicted of theft, robbery and housebreaking.
