Pope admitted to Rome hospital for 'scheduled' colon surgery Pope Francis has been admitted to hospital in Rome for scheduled surgery to treat a colon problem. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said there would be more information after the surgery had taken place at the Gemelli University Hospital. Pope Francis is recovering from intestinal surgery and progressively resuming work, walking and eating with help, the Vatican said Saturday it was satisfactory to add blood tests. After a three-hour operation on Sunday the 84 year-old Papal is hospitalized to remove part of his colon, which the Vatican stated he had badly reduced.
